This year’s Searching for a Star Competition exceeded all expectations. Our stars grew right before our eyes on the Searching for a Star (SFAS) stage All the parents that witnessed their children begin this journey could see their transformation!   This year the (SFAS) Planning Committee added an eight (8) week stage course which made all the difference.  In years past the elimination rounds began 2 weeks into the competition; subsequently, those without any stage experience were all but out from the start. The stage course and workshops allowed us to teach the performers before the competition rounds began. The results…a much more level playing field!

Brittany Thomas came to SFAS during the 2009 competition; from the start I could tell that she was a contender. She had a distinctly warm voice, wonderful personality, a smile that could light up a room and besides all that, she had talent!

In 2009 Brittany came up short after getting a cold in the 4th round. Even though defeat was disheartening, she showed great character as she continued to come to support the other stars. One consolation, Brittany was one of 10 star performers chosen to be on Searching for a Star’s “Best of 2009 CD”; on it she sings a wonderful rendition of “I want to be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart”.

Whenever there was an opportunity to sing Brittany was there.  During the 2009 fall/winter season she sang at the Murphy Maze Days Fall Festival “Corn Idol” she was also featured at the Wylie Arts Festival in December.  Brittany also took dance lessons and voice lessons all while keeping up her grades at Naaman Forrest High School!  When the 2010 SFAS auditions were announced… she was ready!

Brittany is a fighter, but as the field of competitors were revealed, it was impossible to know who would come out on top.  Singers in Brittany’s division were all good and just as determined to take home the top trophy! With performers like Bianca Lorén and Yaminah Lewis turning in great performances, and Mandolin Wiessner and Skylar Addicks progressing greatly, the road was an up hill climb for the rising Star.

 The Finals…Brittany Wins!

On the night of the semi finals everyone in the middle and senior age brackets turned in stellar performances. One singer Yamina Lewis (Wylie) really showed the crowd that she wanted the title more than anyone. Yaminah sang, and the crowd roared!  Going into the finals it was anyone’s race.  Singing; “I’m Alive” by Celine Dion, Brittany performed brilliantly. The night was electric…everyone stepped it up but when the votes were tallied, this night belonged to Brittany!

For her efforts Brittany won $1,100 in cash & awards and is the recipient of a $500 cash scholarship award that will be donated to the fine arts department of Garland ISD It was a tremendous competition!  Congratulations to team Thomas…. Congratulation Brittany!
