I want to use our website  to promote  the businesses and  individuals who see the worth of what we are doing to build character and integrity in our children. 

Search for a Star Foundation may be “new” and  ”limited”  in size, but the principles on which the foundation stands; using music and the arts to build character, self esteem, self confidence and integrity are the qualities that our children will need to run their world when they are called upon to do so.  The mission that we have chosen demands much more attention than we alone can give, that is why our sponsors are very important and deserve to be recognized!

This week our Spotlight is on country music artist…Joe Nichols
Coming from the Chicago land area and relatively new to Texas, I must admit, I wasn’t well versed in “Country Music”   Certainly I listened to and knew some of the country greats,  but  I  did not know many of the up and coming country stars.  

Back home where I grew up,  rhythm & blues, pop and classic rock were the prevelent genres of  music that I listened to, so I  didn’t  feel a need to extend my “musical styles” vocabulary.  It wasn’t until I moved to Texas that I discovered my lack…I was not well rounded, in fact, I was missing a whole style of music that should have been in my vocabulary all along! 

So out of the blue I asked, do you think he would like to help promote my Searching for a Star kids? She told me she would ask….I really never expected anything.  I had approached many stars, and never heard back from them…I figured this experience would be the same.  That night after teaching I went online to see just who this guy was…and after going to his website and hearing some of his music I discovered just who he was, … he was good!

The next week after her  daughter’s guitar class the Joe Nichols fan asked “what do you want Joe to do for Searching for a Star”?  I thought about it for a second and said, “I would like it if he could come and be a guest  judge at this year’s competition”.  I gave her the dates and times…she said, “I’ll get back to you”. 

The next week she came in and told me that he was on tour the weeks of my competition, I thought to my self…that figures.   Then I asked her, do you think he will sign some guitars that I am donating so that I could raffle them at the Searching for a Star finals?     I’ll get back to you she said…
A couple of weeks later she came in and said…give me those guitars!  My jaw just about hit the floor! I thought to myself, a star that cares about more than himself!

Last week I got the guitars back with Mr. Nichols signature!  I say Mr. Nichols,  because I have much respect for him and his willingness to help, and incidentally, the guitars look great with Joe’s signature! 

This whole guitar thing has been a blessing,  One of them was donated by Carl Santos president  of A.C.T. Industries, another was donated by one of our moms on the SFAS planning committee and Ballard School of Performing Arts donated one!  All three (3) guitars will be raffled at the finals on May 28, 2010!

All of the proceeds go to help promote the SFAS  kids! I am so grateful that Mr. Joe Nichols saw the worth in our program, so it is my pleasure to promote what he is doing and to join Joe Nichols fan club!  For more information about Joe Nichols visit:  www.joenichols.com
