I am a guitar instructor…I read dots and dashes on lines and spaces; then interpret what I see by playing my guitar. One day while giving a lesson my student was playing just fine until he got to the “E” on the music staff. I said to him, are you having trouble playing that “E”? The student said “huh”? “Can’t you tell that that note is a “E” I asked? My student with a puzzled look on his face said, it looks like a “C” to me”… He was right!

This year’s Searching for a Star Competition exceeded all expectations. Our stars grew right before our eyes on the Searching for a Star (SFAS) stage All the parents that witnessed their children begin this journey could see their transformation! This year the (SFAS) Planning Committee added an eight (8) week stage course which made all the difference. In years past the elimination rounds began 2 weeks into the competition; subsequently, those without any stage experience were all but out from the start. The stage course and workshops allowed us to teach the performers before the competition rounds began. The results…a much more level playing field!

Thursday May 27th…THE SEMI FINALS
The Searching for a Star Competition Semi Finals got underway without a hitch. The opening act for the evening was Guitarist Leo Garcia; the newest addition to the teaching staff at the Ballard School of Performing Arts. Mr. Garcia’s performance was very well received as he demonstrated various techniques and sounds on his classical guitar. Many in the audience commented on how much they enjoyed his playing!
